The Reign of CHUCK

Welcome to the Chuck Taylor Super-Secret, Super-Indie, soooper blog.

Rules of Chucks blog...
#1 - Chuck Taylor is a man of mystery... a few people know who I am, and those people who do know are sworn to secrecy via a blood oath... warning to those who know my true identity: punishment will be swift, harsh... and final!

#2 - Chuck Taylor only speaks the TRUTH! If I write it, it is so... there is to be no debate about the veracity of my words...

Chuck begins...
Amanda Palmer (roadrunner records recording artist) recently produced a video for her song "Leeds United"... In this video Ms. Palmer reveals a midsection that is neither anorexic nor large, but normal, healthy, and real. I viewed the video without any thoughts about her body type... the video came and went... its a pretty good video. If nothing else - and at very least - it's entertaining, and shouldn't music videos be entertaining?

So what?

So... Roadrunner didn't like the video as it was presented. They felt that certain shots of her stomach weren't flattering. You can argue anything I guess, but remember rule #2: CHUCK WRITES THE TRUTH... The video looked FINE. Amanda looked FINE. Look, I like women in revealing clothing, I am a unabashed, unapologetic, red-blooded, red-meat gnawin', mostly-American male: I like seeing scantily-clad women! This means I don't like seeing too much of what shouldn't be seen... but I have to say, my chauvinistic sensibilities weren't hurt here. Amanda looked pretty hot. If you want Xtina (and I do) you can have her... but Amanda Palmer is NOT Xtina. Amanda Palmer is not a teen sweetheart pop-star (in the cookie-cutter starlet kind of way). But to those kids out there who are wearing their first black, checking out the Cure & New Order for the first time... To those people, this girl is probably your hero, stomach and all... Those folks think Amanda's just perfect. They've even started sending in images of their own bellies, they WANT to see a stomach with some meat. They want to see something that looks more like them.

Maybe a video like this will prevent some girl out there from sticking her finger down her throat. On the other hand, obesity is an epidemic. So put down the porkchop flavored ice-cream, close the lap-top and go for a bike ride...

To their credit Roadrunner supports their girl, when asked about it here's what they said:
Roadrunner Records continues to support the career and artistry of Amanda Palmer and The Dresden Dolls. We are proud of what we have accomplished collectively for the latter, and are enthusiastically promoting Amanda's debut solo effort Who Killed Amanda Palmer. In fact, anyone reading this text would be wise to pick up a copy, it is a riveting listen. As well, Roadrunner will be shooting three more music videos in the interest of releasing a DVD companion to the album which will comprise videos of every song from the album, and more.

So go buy the goddamn record already and stop yer cryin'

Last thought: Roadrunner is no different than any other label, they don't want their artist looking bad... but she didn't. Cool? rule #2 Chuck speaks the truth. At least Amanda was able to stir up some excitement and controversy... So Amanda won this battle (because the video is out there), but the question remains: who will win the War?
